I find myself wanting to do many and “great things for God”- but there is no time. I struggled with this in the past, but finally found my peace in Him. Where I am today is where He wants me to be. This is what I hear Him calling me to do- but the world laughs at it and calls it foolishness. I read that He is in the business of taking the foolish things and confounding the “wise”! I may be foolish in the eyes of many- but through this foolishness comes the wisdom and favor of God…
There was a season in my life where I wanted to do “many and great things for God”. I struggled with this, finding myself discontent and striving for things He had not yet released to me. After quieting my spirit and seeking Him in prayer, I finally found my peace. I came into a place with God where I learned to be genuinely content to have Him. HIM. Many say they see God, and know God, and hear God’s voice- but I only sought to have HIM. I did not [and do not] seek Him to obtain things from Him, to show off my bible revelation, to get a name for myself, to have worldly riches- I only sought to have Him. By having Him I have all things. He Is my everything… He Is all wisdom and knowledge… He Is something to boast about… He Is above all riches and fortunes. I have found true joy.
Where I am today is where He wants me to be. I am a stay at home mother and I homeschool my four children. This is what I hear Him calling me to do- but the world laughs at it and calls it foolishness [I heard that He is in the business of taking the foolish things and confounding the "wise"!]. I may be foolish in the eyes of many- but through this foolishness I have found the wisdom and favor of God…

I went to my door to tape up a sign for the UPS man and to my surprise, a young man was stuffing my children’s ball into a car full of children. I yelled to my kids that someone was giving their ball away. I opened the door and yelled it again so he can hear me. He said, “oh- was that your ball? I found it in the street.” I heard the woman in the car chuckle and drive off. He kept saying he was going to get the ball back for me, especially when all of my children came to the door to see what was going on. I was surprised that I actually stood up for myself. I am usually non-confrontational. This time it was not about me but my children. We just purchased the ball three days ago. This taught me that you will get the courage to stand when needed- if it is important enough to you. I may not have stood up if it belonged to me [who knows- maybe I was feeling raw this morning!], but for my children-YES. I’m used to taking the ’short end of the stick’ and have trained myself not to be bothered by it. I still think this is good [at times]- so that no one has control over my peace. Whether he ever gets the ball back or not, we’ll see. I’m just glad that my children saw that mommy will fight for them.

Contentment means satisfaction with one’s life; fulfillment with a peace of mind. Many think this is a curse word. It also has become one in the church!
Over the years I had so much anxiety and worry over my life. I finally learned to be content with GOD. I have learned how to quiet my soul and allow God to fulfill me. This sounds crazy- why not reach for the stars? I found out that there is so much that is missed when you focus on the stars instead of the God who created them…
I like the story of Martha and Mary in the bible- when Martha was so busy with worry [about serving], while Mary sat at Jesus’ feet, listening to His voice. I once was a Martha- with a Mary screaming to come out. A major transition in our family allowed me to finally become a Mary.
There are times when Martha wants to appear on the scene- missing the approval of others and the feeling of ‘achievement’. But I push that old person back down, because I remembered the cost it was to be a Martha- and the great loss.
Jesus was very much wise in saying there is only one thing needful. I have found that one…

I recently watched a movie about a man who went into the future and found out the exact date he died- which happened to be about three days later. He spent his last hours trying to save someone else’s life- which he did. It was interesting how he was not interested in saving his own.
At the end of the movie he made a statement- which I can not remember. I do know it had something to do with the one thing you wish for when you die- to to have your life back- which you can never get. This really pierced my heart.
“So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.” ~Psa 90:12
This is one of the many scriptures that I think about regularly- Psalm 90:12. It was written by Moses when they were in the wilderness. As I think about life- and death- I often ask myself: ‘What is really important at the end of the day?’ When illness strikes a person-or a loved one- we tend to ponder on these things, but why wait? Why not ponder now? Why number our days? Ohhh- so that we may apply our hearts to live our lives with godly wisdom. Are we wasting time? Are we letting go of opportunities?
“But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.” ~2 Peter 3:10
I’m not talking about opportunities for business, or fame, or education. Opportunities to give, to do good works, to spread the gospel, to be examples of God’s love. THAT’S what really matters at the end of the day. Don’t get caught up in the world- because one day it will pass away.
“Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is. If any man’s work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.”
~1Co 3:13-15
God will test every one of our works, to see if it will pass through His holy fire. This test does not decide whether we will be saved or not- but it will decide whether we will receive a reward for our ‘good deeds’- or not. Take a moment to examine your heart and your life. Are your works worthy enough to pass through the fire? Are they truly done ‘unto the Lord’? Are they done with a pure heart and clean hands? Strive to please God. Strive to store up treasure in heaven. This is what really matters at the end of the day.
“And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.”
~Luke 16:15
See, we do things and think we are pleasing God, but we need to examine out hearts against HIS WORD- not our word or the word of the ‘church’ or the word of the world. Just because someone gives us a pat on the back does not mean it was pleasing to God. Neither does ‘a good feeling’ in our heart justify our deeds. If you want to know what pleases God- and what is most important to Him- read His Word.
Stay focused on Eternal Life through Jesus Christ, because at the end of the day- nothing else matters.
